The November 2024 issue of Street Machine is on sale now, headlined by Steve Moon’s blown, 440ci LS-powered Torana.
At a glance, Steve’s Torana seems to be another neat little XU-1 tribute, but closer inspection reveals a beautifully engineered, exquisitely finished, next-level street machine, pieced together by a who’s who of the South East Queensland car scene.
Jaime and Allison Cramp’s awesome XW Falcon pano proves that vanning is alive and well Down Under. With searing orange paint, American Racing Torq Thrust wheels, three pedals and a 351ci Clevo, it’s a fairly traditional-looking street machine, but beneath the surface lies a bunch of cutting-edge tech to make van life all the more enjoyable.
We head west to Dubvegas for the second annual Dubbo Motorfest – a monster regional event with over 1000 cars and motorcycles, including a nostalgia-inducing array of big-name Aussie street machines from years gone by.
Sydney’s Mark Caruana comes from good street machining stock, and his HK Kingswood is a tough small block-powered beastie with the quality ratcheted up to 11. An Elite Top 20 berth on debut at Summernats 36 earlier this year is a case in point.
Proving that you don’t need eight cylinders to make an impact (or a boat-load of horsepower), Matt Orsida’s Datsun 1200 ute is a stone-cold stunner, packing an 800rwhp, turbocharged Nissan SR20VE.
What better way to enjoy Father’s Day than checking out some of Melbourne’s best streeters with your nearest and dearest? That’s what we reckoned, so we headed out to the Showcars Melbourne Father’s Day Spectacular at St Kilda, capturing all the goings-on while we were at it.
Ross Fortuna bought and revived an old 1980s pro street EH and transformed it into a striking, small block-powered street car. Our favourite aspect of this build is the X2 detailing in the engine bay. Check it out!
The name Al Vella requires no introduction to followers of Street Machine Drag Challenge. His BG Engines small-block Ford-powered Capri has been a dominant force in the Radial Aspirated class since day dot. Well, he’s built a new one, and it’s lighter, leaner and meaner than his OG Capri!
Large and in charge, Darren Pelacchi’s ’55 Ford C600 COE boasts unrivalled visual presence, massive duallie rear hoops and stunning Soul Red duco.
For the tech-heads, check out a ripping yarn on the Tuff Mounts crew carrying out one of the first GM LT V8 conversions we’ve seen on Aussie soil. Take-up of the Gen V engine has been slow and steady Down Under due to the complexities around Direct Injection and other modern systems. But Jason Waye and the Tuff Mounts team have cracked the code, and you can learn how they did it in the November issue of Street Machine, on sale now!
